For Students Who Take Jewish-Studies Courses<\/em> & J.S. Minors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Saul Friedman Scholarship in Jewish Studies<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Dr. Saul Friedman Scholarship in Jewish Studies is awarded to a qualified YSU undergraduate student involved with the Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies and maintaining good academic standing. Preference given to students minoring in Judaic Studies. Students may apply by sending a letter expressing their interest in Israel, the Holocaust and\/or Jewish History. The Advisory Committee of the Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies selects the students to receive the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Leonard B. Spiegel Memorial Scholarship<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This scholarship was established in 2018 in memory of Dr. Leonard B. Spiegel by his three children. Leonard came to Youngstown in 1961 to begin his university teaching career at Youngstown State University. For the next 35 years, Leonard had a distinguished career as a professor of Biochemistry. Leonard loved working at YSU and was an avid supporter of YSU athletics and theater. He was also very involved in the Youngstown community, especially the Jewish community. This scholarship is for a student majoring in Chemistry or a chemistry related field, attending YSU full-time as an undergraduate or graduate student with a 2.75 GPA. Preference will be given to a student who is minoring in Judaic Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Jewish Students<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

J. Newman Levy Scholarship<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The J. Newman Levy Scholarship was given by Marcia Gurss Levy in memory of her husband J. Newman Levy, who died in 2017 of Alzheimer’s Disease. This scholarship is for a Jewish student, attending YSU full-time. First preference to an incoming freshman. First preference to a Jewish student who resides outside the tri-county area (excluded counties: Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana). A minimum 3.0 GPA and a completed FAFSA are required. Need is a consideration<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senator Maurice and Florence Lipscher Scholarship<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Senator Maurice and Florence Lipscher Scholarship is awarded to incoming YSU freshmen. Preference will be given to Jewish students. Scholarships awarded will be both need based and merit based. Need based applicants must have a processed FAFSA. Merit based applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will also be given to applicants who are residents of the tri-county area of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio and Mercer county in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isador Zobel Scholarship<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Isadore Zobel Scholarship was established in 1966 under the will of Isadore Zobel. This scholarship provides assistance to needy students of the Jewish faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Louis and Julia Spitzer Memorial Scholarship<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Louis and Julia Spitzer Memorial Scholarship was established in 1961 for students of the Jewish faith who need financial assistance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
