The presentation may be conducted virtually if necessary. The CJHS reserves the right to post and circulate videos of the lecture on social media and its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The 2021-2022 OBS Travel Grant has been awarded to Dr. Donna DeBlasio, who is preparing an application to place the synagogue building on the national registry. We will announce next year&#8217;s contest at an appropriate time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ohiohistory.org\/OHC\/media\/OHC-Media\/History%20Blog\/Youngstown-3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Congregation Ohev Beth Shalom, formerly Congregation Rodef Sholom<br>Founded in 1867 \/ Building dedicated in 1915<br>Photo via www.ohiohistory.org<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">OBS recently opened an archive center which collects and makes available to the public documents and other materials from the synagogue\u2019s history and from the Jewish community of greater Youngstown. <br><br>OBS&#8217;s partners in this endeavor include the <a href=\"https:\/\/ysu.edu\/academics\/beeghly-college-liberal-arts-social-sciences-education\/history-major\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">History Program<\/a> at YSU (and AmeriCorps), the <a href=\"https:\/\/jewishstudies.ysu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies<\/a> at YSU, the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngstownohiosteelmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steel Museum<\/a>), the <a href=\"https:\/\/mahoninghistory.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mahoning Valley Historical Society<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanjewisharchives.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Jewish Archives<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">For more information about the history of OBS, visit their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohevbethsholom.org\/our-history.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a> or our <a href=\"http:\/\/\u2022\thttps:\/\/jewishstudies.ysu.edu\/?page_id=628\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resource page<\/a> on the history of Jews in Youngstown.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The OBS Travel grant offers $1,500 annually to a scholar who will conduct research in the archives of Congregation Ohev Beth Shalom (OBS, formerly Congregation Rodef Sholom) in Youngstown, OH.
